BC Software Systems to be distributor for German solutions provider

by Elmo Leonard

BC Software Systems (Pvt) Ltd (BCSSL), a member of the Bartleet Group, has signed an agreement with Software AG of Germany, whereby BCSSL will be the sole distributor in Sri Lanka for XML-based products of the German corporate.

BCSSL Managing Director, Sunil Wijesinghe said his company will appoint Value Added Resellers to market these products.

XML (Extensible Markup Language) products will initially be targeted at banks, financial and commercial sectors and the government. The resellers would incorporate Software AG's XML-based technology into the buyers' existing and future solutions. The results would be "robust and advanced solutions" to meet the fast-growing demands of their customer base in information content management, the media was told.

BCSSL is a fully-owned subsidiary of BC Computers Ltd, an eCommerce, B2B and Internet technologies developer. It provides a variety of software applications and services both internationally and locally.

BCSSL's core competencies include web infrastructure design and maintenance, electronic commerce systems, customer self-service applications and Enterprise Application Integration. Wijesinghe said the company has been implementing large-scale mission-critical projects in banking and finance, trade and commerce for 20 years.

The Bartleet Group is a diversified group of companies engaged in produce broking, stockbroking, money broking, financial services and information technology. BC Computers' subsidiary and associate companies are BCSSL, Enterprise Technology (Pvt) Ltd and Financial Systems International (Pvt) Ltd.

Software AG Director Marketing and Channels (Asia Pacific) Clive Tilbrook, who is based in Singapore, said Sri Lanka is the first South Asian country to get the XML products. He said that while India is a large and far flung market, Sri Lanka is a compact market and a good launch pad for the subcontinent.

Software AG, founded in 1969, continues to be one of the largest global providers of systems software and services enabling enterprise data integration and management, Tilbrook told the media in Colombo.

It develops products and solutions that support the XML standard, which simplifies the exchange of documents and data as well as the integration of web applications into traditional IT architecture.

Software AG has offices in over 70 countries and currently employs over 3,000 people. The company is listed on the Frankfurt Stock Exchange, Tilbrook said.
