Royal and Musaeus u-19 boys and girls champs

Royal College and Musaeus College rowers emerged overall boys and girls under-19 champions and carried away the Rev. Fr. D. B. Stanley Abeysekera Challenge Trophies at the inaugural Multilane Age Group Sculling Championships Regatta conducted by St. Joseph's College and held on the Beira Lake yesterday.

Meanwhile St. Joseph's College and Ladies College were presented a trophy each becoming boys and girls under-17 champions.

Altogether 11 events in sculls and double sculls events in four age-groups under-13, under-15, under-17, under-19 together with under-24 were worked off and no points were awarded in under-13, under-15 and under-24 events.

This is the first time that Multilane Regatta was conducted in Sri Lanka.

Niroshini Seneviratne of Ladies College performed a 'double' winning the girls under-17 sculls with a time of 5.12 secs and the under-19 sculls returning a time of 5.00 secs.

H. M. Dharmadasa of Sri Lanka Navy who represented Sri Lanka at the Double Sculls partnering V. G. N. Samantha at the Asian Games held in Busan, Korea 2002 did well to win the men's open sculls - time: 7.44 secs. He outraced the Colombo Rowing Club U. Hettiarachchi and pushed from to second position - 9.30 secs while his team V. G. N. Samantha also of Sri Lanka Navy took the third place - 9.35 secs.

The experienced Thomian pair of Isuru Perera and D. de Soysa won the men's under-24 double sculls with perfect rowing over their opponents M. Gunaratne and E. Muhandiramge of Old Joes Sports Club. Isuru and Soysa timed 6.33 secs.

The former Rector of St. Joseph's College Rev. Fr. D. B. Stanley Abeysekera was the chief guest.

Boys - under-13 sculls: 1. L. Lakshman (Ananda College) 3:05:79 secs, 2. D. Karuanratne (Ananda) 3:14:58 secs, 3. Y. Lokuge (Ananda) 3:37:76 secs.

Boys under-15 sculls: 1. G. Jayaratne (Ananda) 4:59:03 secs, 2. M. Jayasinghe (Royal) 5:04 secs, 3. A. Jayatileke (Royal) 5:20 secs.

Girls under-17 sculls: 1. Niroshini Seneviratne (Ladies College) 5:12 secs, 2. Ravindi Walisinghe (Musaeus) 5.37 secs, 3. Ayndri de Soysa (Ladies College).

Ladies Open Sculls: 1. T. K. Jayaweera (University of Colombo) 6:42:98 secs, 2. H. R. Perera (University of College) 7:54:42 secs.

Boys under-17 Sculls: 1. C. Silva (St. Joseph's College) 4:32 secs, 2. J. Wickremasinghe (St. Joseph's College) 4:33 secs, 3. S. de Silva (S. Thoams College) 4:37 secs.

Men's Open Sculls: 1. H. M. Amaradasa (Sri Lanka Navy) 7:44 secs, 2. T. J. Hettiarachchi (CRC) 9:30 secs, 3. V. G. N. Samantha (Sri Lanka Navy) 9:35 secs.

Boys under-19 sculls: 1. S. Dharmaratne (Royal) 7:21 secs, 2. J. Zufer (St. Joseph's College) 7:32 secs, 3. S. Abeygunawardena (Royal) 8:06 secs.

Boys Under-19 Double Sculls: 1. H. Silva and J. Wickremasinghe (St. Joseph's College) 7:03 secs, 2. S. K. Weerasinha and D. Aluvihare (S. Thomas' College) 7:32 secs.

Men's Under-24 Sculls: 1. M. Gunawardena (Old Joes SC) 6:53:85 secs, 2. D. de Soysa (S. Thomas' College) 6:57:77 secs, 3. I. Perera (S. Thomas' College) 6:59:56 secs.

Girls Under-19 Sculls: 1. Niroshini Seneviratne (Ladies College) 5:00 secs, 2. Anushka de Silva (Musaeus) 5:13 secs, 3. Pemindee Gamage (Musaeus) 5:22 secs.

Men's Under-24 Double Sculls: 1. D. de Soysa and Isuru Perera (S. Thomas' College) 6:25 secs, 2. M. Gunawardena and E. Muhandiramge (Old Joes SC) 6:33 secs.
