Standard Chartered Bank reiterates commitment to Sri Lanka by Pelham Juriansz Standard Chartered Bank (SCB) revamped its York Street office and relaunched the Gold Credit Card recently while plans are underway to open the bank's ninth branch in Colombo 7 to coincide with its 150th year. SCB's Head of Consumer, Vivek Chand said the Central Bank has approved the opening of this branch. David Edwards, Regional General Manager for the Middle East and South Asia (excluding India) was in Sri Lanka recently to inaugurate the refurbished Fort office. This will be the first branch in Sri Lanka to conform to Standard Chartered Bank's new international standards. "The re-branding of the bank, which began last year, has been fully integrated into the new branch, which stands as a beacon and a clear reflection of the values for which the bank stands for and the energy with which we dedicate our efforts to improve financial services to our customers," he said. "As a region, the Middle East and South Asia are a major part of the Group's business and focus, and Sri Lanka is a key part of SCB's presence in the region," Edwards said. Answering a question on how successful the integration with ANZ Grindlays is, Standard Chartered Bank Sri Lanka Chief Executive Officer Wasim Saifi said the merger was successful, evident by the fact that there are a series of investments to expand the bank's presence and service to customers. The bank relaunched the Gold Credit Card with additional privileges, in partnership with MasterCard. A modern banking software platform will be introduced later in the year, which will place Sri Lanka on par with the group's international standards. These investments are a clear statement of the bank's commitment to invest and grow its business in Sri Lanka. |
