Miss International 'n' Miss Tourism International

Beauty pageants to boost tourism

The Miss Tourism International ageant, to be hosted in Sri Lanka from September 29 to October 22, is different to other international beauty pageants, for the tremendous international promotion it brings to the tourist industry of the host country.

Besides the direct and indirect benefits to the industry, the pageant projects the image of the country. For this reason, many countries are keen to host this pageant in their respective countries, in relation to other international pageants. Sebastian Perera, Franchise Director and Chairman of the pageant's organizing committee says that he has received confirmation that internationally renowned personalities have agreed to choreograph the event.

Miss Tourism International pageant, began in 1969 travelling around the world and was held in Sri Lanka in 1993, 1996 and 2002. Now the Executive Committee is preparing the final details for the five international mini-pageants to be held in five exotic local tourist hotels, as well as the itinerary for the 60 international beauty queens coming here. The sixth mini-pageant will be at Hotel Trans Asia and the glittering World Finals will be at the BMICH.

Of the two local beauty queens selected on September 13 at the glittering local pageant at Trans Asia Hotel, one will be crowned as Miss Sri Lanka for Miss International to fly to Tokyo in September for the world finals of Miss International pageants, organized by the International Cultural Association of Japan and the Japanese Foreign Ministry. This will be the very first time a Sri Lankan contestant will take part in this pageant begun in 1960. The other queen, crowned as Miss Sri Lanka for Miss Tourism International, will join the beauty contestants arriving in Sri Lanka to take part in the five mini-pageants and the finals of Miss Tourism International pageant.

The pageants are spearheaded by a professional team of executive committee members with a good track record, with Usha Jayawardena at the helm with the Franchise Director, Perera. The other members are Jacky Perera, Swarna Muhanderamge, Anushi Warnasuriya, Upali Ranjith, Ananda Samarakoon, Dhammika Gunasekera and Shirley Ganegoda.

Miss Tourism Pageant requests for sponsorships for commercials, general trailors with multiple sponsor tags and televising of the mini and grand pageants as well as advertisements, promotional and publicity slots.

Rupavahini will be the official Electronic Media and the other two main sponsors, SriLankan Airlines and the Associated Newspapers of Ceylon Ltd. For more details contact- Sebastian Perera, Chairman, Celsin Ltd. on Tel. 574322, 576369 and 574584.
