Yashoda hits the world wide web

by Umangi de Mel

The Galadari was a `starry' haven on June 18, 2003 with the rich and the famous gathered to celebrate a glamorous event at `The Boom' as young celebrity Yashoda Wimaladharma hosted her website, `yashodaw.com', the first ever website on a local actress. The concept being the first project by `Emphasis', a public relations outfit launched in May 2003, Glenda Parthipan, Managing Director, `Emphasis' says that she wanted something unique to be done when she launched the company.

"The website was the first thing that came to my mind. Yashoda has been working with me and thus, I know a lot about her. She seemed to be the ideal person. None of the Sri Lankan actresses or actors have a website which is quite shocking," she says.

Glenda adds that launching the website on a local actress for the first time looks timely as she feels that artists are national assets who bring recognition and fame to the country. "As a tribute to Dr. Lester James Peries, Sumithra Peries and Irangini Serasinghe, `Emphasis' will take over launching two separate websites for them. That's how the company looks forward to acknowledge the stars for all that they have done," she says thanking all those who were present at the launch. "I think we laid the foundation for a new beginning for the stars."

Commenting on her latest moment of glory Yashoda says that she 's flattered to have been selected to play the pioneering role as she linked with the world through the world wide web.

Yashodaw.com records the star's biography from her childhood to this day, her career and achievements, a tribute to her father, the people she admires, fan appreciations, memories, a photo gallery and screen savers. The star studded `Boom' was a happening place as elegant figures walked in and out to catch up with their `famous' buddies in the industry.

The chief guest Doctor Lester James Peries, the top film director admitted the fact that he's clueless about the internet nevertheless was happy and praised its benevolence to the industry.
