Aquarius going strong in Dubai

The magnetic vibes of Aquarius with bassist Benjy Ranabahu in the driving seat are being lapped up by many a music lover at the Bouzoukia Night Club of Sun and Sand Hotel, Dubai. Benjy's expertise as a leader of a band has always been a major plus for him. When the band left Sri Lanka to play a contract at Eurekha Hotel, Dubai, our music scene lost another popular and active band.

Benjy tells us that while playing at Eurekha Hotel the popularity of the band led them to a new contract at Sun and Sand Hotel which commenced about two and a half weeks ago. With his new keyboardist Conny Fernandez, a Goan, the driving and powerful drummer/vocalist Shiran Munasinghe, the exciting guitarist/vocalist Mangala and their female glitz Sheru, the band by popular demand plays seven nights a week at the Bouzoukia Night Club.

Incidentally Sheru celebrated her birthday on June 19 with music all around her in an unforgettable evening in her career. Belated birthday wishes Sheru! Benjy hopes to reduce the seven nights a week of playing to six nights in order that his band members could cool off. Asked whether he intends being back here for gigs during the festive season, Benjy commented that he was not quite sure, but he would love to meet all his fans if the opportunity came around.

An acclaimed bassist who played for leading bands Amazing Grace, Mirage and later branched off to make his own scene with Aquarius, Benjy is extremely happy with his band's performances at the new nightclub and their versatility in fulfilling the requests of the guests which stretches from oldies to contemporary pop hits. Hope we will be able to catch the fascinating vibes of Aquarius when the festive season moves into Sri Lanka!
