Kotagama felicitation ceremony Tuesday by FLORENCE WICKRAMAGE The felicitation ceremony organised in honour of Professor Sarath Kotagama who was awarded the "2003 Distinguished Service Award for Environment Education and Journalism" by the International Society for Conservation Biology will be held on Tuesday July 8 at 5.30 p.m. at the Sri Lanka Foundation Institute. The chief guest will be Environment and Natural Resources Minister Rukman Senanayake. The ceremony has been organised by the 'Silumina' and 'Daily News' of the Associated Newspapers of Ceylon Limited, assisted by the 'Sunday Observer', 'Dinamina' and Young Asia Television Channel. Prof. Sarath Kotagama's extraordinary service as an ornithologist and Environmentalist will be highlighted at this ceremony. The keynote address will be by Senior Professor of the Peradeniya University, former Vice Chancellor, Prof. C.M. Maddumabandara. Former Additional Secretary of the Environment and Natural Resources Ministry, Sunil Sarath Perera, will speak on Prof. Sarath Kotagama's a contributions to Environmental Communication. Dr. Devaka Weerakoon of the Zoology Department of the Colombo University will also deliver an address. The ceremony will include Environmental songs, drama and a exhibition on Prof. Kotagama's work organised by the Field Ornithology Group of Sri Lanka which is affiliated to the Colombo University. |
