JVP want Nimal Siripala out The Janatha Vimukthi Peramuna (JVP) has demanded the removal of former Minister and the Badulla District Parliamentarian Nimal Siripala de Silva from the Committee set up to form the PA-JVP Alliance, informed sources said. Veteran Sri Lanka Freedom Party politician, Nimal Siripala de Silva came under criticism by the JVP, following his objection to the allocation of more than 25 electoral seats to the JVP and allowing the party to play a prominent role in the intended alliance, sources said. Gampaha District Parliamentarian, Anura Bandaranaike who stands in favour of the PA-JVP alliance had strongly protested the attitude of Nimal Siripala de Silva towards the JVP and supported its demand of removing him from the committee, sources said. Meanwhile, senior SLFP members have expressed their views in favour of retaining Nimal Siripala de Silva in the committee and have pointed out the vital role played by him in carrying out the general election campaigns in 2000 and 2001. |
