HNB Securities creates awareness on bonds HNB Securities Ltd., a fully-owned subsidiary of Hatton National Bank, conducted a seminar on 'Bond Investment Strategies' at HNB Towers recently. G. Ramanan, who has a considerable amount of portfolio management experience, conducted the seminar, which was chaired by Rienzie Wijetilleke, Chairman HNB Securities and Managing Director, HNB. The guest speaker was K. G. D. D. Dheerasinghe, Superintendent and Registrar Public Debt Department, Central Bank. The seminar was attended by institutional customers who were briefed on the advantages offered by bond investments as well as tips on what factors to consider when dealing in them. The seminar offered the participants guidelines on accounting for Treasury Bonds since no proper standards are presently adopted. Treasury Bonds are issued by the Central Bank through dedicated primary dealers on behalf of the government and varies in duration from two to six years or more. HNB Securities hopes that with these seminars, the knowledge base among its customers would improve, leading to a more competitive and active bond market in Sri Lanka. Hence, the company hopes to conduct more seminars of this nature with a view to developing a more vibrant bond market. HNB Securities, currently housed at Janadhipathi Mawatha, will move into the HNB Towers soon. |
