With My Feet Thru' Time", a show organised and presented by Naomi Rajaratnam will go on the boards of the Bishops College auditorium from 22nd to 24th August. Described by the presenters as a "dance sport extravaganza", the show will be a fusion of Latin American, ballroom, contemporary, jazz oriental and freestyle dancing. According to a media release, it brings together diverse forms of dance choreographed in order to bring out the different eras of dance through history. There will be over two dozen dancers who will be performing at the show, some of them being title holders of Sri Lanka's Dancesport Championships. Some dancers have also represented the country at international championships. This experienced and talented group will perform dances that will take the audience on a journey through time with some well-loved and appreciated music and songs. Genesis, Jail House Rock, Love is in the Air and Animal Samba are few of the dances that form this line-up. The lighting and backdrops which are in keeping with the highest standards are combined with sophisticated, well designed costumes. This is the second such presentation by Naomi, the first being presented in August 2000. The plight of a few destitute elders had been the motivating factor for her to go ahead and launch a project of this kind. Thus the proceeds of both these shows will be donated to the Dev-siri Sevana elders home in Welisara. Naomi Rajaratnam has been in the forefront of Sri Lankan dance for well over two decades and has been a mentor and guide to many of Sri Lanka's foremost dancers. |
