SLMM awaits LTTE response The Sri Lanka Monitoring Mission (SLMM) is yet to receive a response from the LTTE regarding the Wan-Ela camp issue. The SLMM earlier ruled that the LTTE should vacate the camp as it had been established in violation of the ceasefire agreement. According to SLMM spokesperson Agnes Bragadottir, SLMM chief Tryggve Tellefssen had had a lengthy discussion with LTTE political wing leader Thamilselvan in Kilinochchi on the camp issue last week and it was agreed that Thamilselvan would respond as early as possible, but until yesterday no feedback has been received. The SLMM spokesperson also said that Thamilselvan had offered to send a team of LTTE members from Kilinochchi to the disputed camp site to make the assessments. During talks with the LTTE political wing leader the SLMM chief had reiterated his ruling on the camp issue. The SLMM leader also met the Sea Tiger chief Colonel Soosai and discussed with him the recent problems which occurred in the north eastern waters. The Sea Tigers were urged to abide by the SLMM regulations in order to prevent any confrontations with the Navy in the future. - AP |
