Sandun Dias excels in England Sandun Dias, the Josephian all-rounder who started his cricketing career at Maris Stella College, is now playing league cricket in England, on a scholarship granted by the BCCSL. He has performed exceptionally well in the league tournament, representing Bessborough Cricket Club, Sandun has already scored over 500 runs and taken over 25 wickets for his club. His best performances have been 91 against Barnet, 79 not out again Acton, 54 not out against Habidashes, 49 against North London, 47 against Shepards Bush, 40 against Hampton Wick Royal, 37 against Northwood and 34 runs and 5 for 32 against Harrow Town. He has also been the highest scorer at the Annual Inter School Cricket Festival in London, representing St. Joseph's College. In Sri Lanka, at the 2002 under 17 Tri Nation Tournament held at Dambulla, Sandun scored a fine 51 in just 24 balls in the final against India. It was the fastest 50 recorded. In the 3-day game against Bangladesh, Sandun ran through the Bangladesh innings with amazing figures of 7 for 26, which was the best bowling feat recorded in the tournament. Sandun has performed well for his school - St. Joseph's last year, as an all-rounder. He had several good all round performances. He won the 'Man of the Match' award against S. Thomas' in the 'Jayasuriya Memorial Trophy with a superb all round performance. |
