Cricket his second love

Once a regular member of the dance band Heat, Rajitha Rupasinghe - vocalist/keyboardist was eager to make his own scene. He branched off on a duo act called Misty and performed in the Maldives.

When he returned home after that stint,he extended Misty into a five piece band and swiftly moved into the popularity lane. A product of Mahanama College he now enjoys leading his band currently playing at The Mix, Taj Samudra on Wednesdays and Thursdays, and with a regular Friday night gig at Clancy's. Besides the many dances and corporate functions, Misty has been the featured band for SriLankan Airlines presentations held in Berlin, Frankfurt, Bangalore, Cochin, Pakistan and Karachi. Want to know more read on.....

Name: Rajitha Rupasinghe
Birthday: September 24 (Not far off fans - make a note!)
Status: Married. (His wife is the lovely Iroshini).

Fav colour: Black. (In this colourful tropical country why do most artistes in the music industry favour black we wonder?!)

Trendy outfits: I like them, I definitely do and the more funky it is I like them better. As for me wearing them, it all depends on the occasion. If it suits me then I grab it for my next performance.

Hair do's: In my earlier years I grew my hair, but I felt it didn't give me the image I wanted, so I decided to sport a bald head and bang! There was a change overnight and my bald head is in the spotlight now!

Then how do you reject advances from girls: On stage I do it very professionally. It is all only during performance times!

Fav music: I really like country rock, but then again in my profession I cannot categorise. I enjoy the music that came out in the 70s and the 80s. Fav song of 80s and 90s: From the 80s it is Africa by Toto and from the 90s...well I was not crazy about the boy bands. It was Sadness by Enigma.

Qualities you like in a girl: She should be understanding, pleasant and have a lot of patience. A musician's life does not run on a normal course. A lot of events happen with short notice and many long hours of rehearsals and playing on stage have to be accepted. How much of a party guy are you: I go partying when I'm not working. More to listen to fellow musicians and appreciate their playing.

Are you superstitious: No I'm not.

Pet hate in life: Gossip. Also people who pretend that they are doing a successful job when they are not. We call it bragging.

What makes you happy in life: Music. I enjoy my profession. At the end of the day if I have made people happy then I'm happy too.

How many rude thoughts do you have in a day: Not very often, but sometimes when things don't work out the way I want it especially when we are rehearsing - I get like gr..rr...* * *. But I cool off fast.

When you are not singing what keeps you awake at night: Watching movies especially vintage movies.

Where would you like to be most now: Nowhere else but in Sri Lanka. There's no place like home. Recently I was in Australia at Endeva Hills, Melbourne, it was extremely picturesque....but no, I told myself it's Sri Lanka for me.

What other profession would you like to be in: A cricketer. I played cricket for my college, Mahanama. I was an off spinner. I've no regrets though now. I keep my interest in cricket alive. I go and watch the school matches, club matches, and the international matches - I prefer watching the matches live.

What would you do if you ruled the world: I'd stop the war. Everyone wants peace and stability. Most of all I'll prosecute and nail down people who are involved in fraud and who rob their respective countries of monies.

Your fav food? Do you cook? I love Spaghetti Bolognese, and also country rice and curry. I can cook Spaghetti Bolognese. I pride myself on that.

What do you think life would be like in the year 3000: It will be a high tech life. Actually I don't know where we would be. When Blake 7 came along we never thought we'd have mobile phones. Then with Independence Day we saw further developments in technology. It's baffling.

Do you like to live dangerously: Now and then I take a challenge but generally speaking I'm an easy going person.

Which product would you like most to endorse: Quite naturally electronic equipment, especially a microphone.

Fav cartoon character: Bugs Bunny. Even to this day I watch the guy and my second favourite is Woody Woodpecker.

What's your worst song of today: There is a song I hear often. I'm not sure of the title, but the lyrics go 'Hey there it's your birthday....." I hate it.

Your fav rap star: I used to like M.C. Hammer. But now it's Shaggy - a real cool guy.

What does the future hold: Composing original songs and the release of a CD.
