'Veeduru Mal' Rajiv's latest CD

In the true tradition of which he is popular for, vocalist Rajiv Sebastian's latest CD 'Veeduru mal' is a compilation of fourteen songs, ten of which are originals, while the rest are cover versions with interesting arrangements.

One of the originals Mawni Ma Dayabara is a dedication to his mother, who unfortunately is not alive to enjoy the song, Rajiv tells us. She died after a tragic accident a few days before the launch, and as such the release date had to be postponed.

The four covers Sanda Kiranin, Siripa Adaviya, Rathu Patata, Duwa Ma Wage have been re-arranged and as Augie Ranaweera acknowledges Rajiv gives 'a Jamaican touch to suit the new millennium instead of rap or rape adopted by most of our music directors.'

To the many Clarence Wijewardene fans Rajiv has included two songs of Clarence which were not recorded by the maestro and which are now on Rajiv's CD courtesy of Nelu Fernando and S. James. On some of the tracks Rajiv duets with other singers. With Sunil in 'Api Geetha Gayanawa' the song tells of a singers plight on stage. The other duet is with Mariazelle. For the first time Rajiv has moved in as a 'playback singer' for his song Medun Manamalita has been used for a teledrama.

Music wise Rajiv is overjoyed that he now has with him the leading bassist Thilak Dias as a member of the Clan, and they perform weekly on Thursdays at Molly's. As you read this Rajiv will be in Australia to perform at a dance scheduled for August 2, while in October, he informed us that with the Clan he will be in concert for two shows in Sydney and two in Melbourne. In September Rajiv and the Clan will be off to the Middle East for a concert performance.
