Aravinda leads Colombo team for Kent cricket tourney by REGGIE FERNANDO, our London Corr Some of Sri Lanka's world class cricketers will be seen in action at Hove, Kent on August 8 when they participate in the Zone 6 City Cricket Competition organised by the Professional Cricketers' Association (PCA). Six cities with eight players on each side including London and Cape Town will vie for the honours and handsome prizes in this fast-paced one-day tournament with revised cricketing rules. The game has been designed to provide greater entertainment. Sections of the boundary will be divided into 'zones' where a traditional four scores eight and a six scores 12. Each inning is limited to 8 overs and selected players will be equipped with mini-microphones and earpieces to provide insight while the game is in progress. This tournament pioneered by the PCA two years ago provides tremendous family entertainment and has become a highlight in England's cricketing calendar. The Colombo team will be led by Aravinda de Silva and will include Sanath Jayasuriya, Chaminda Vaas, Kumar Sangakkara, Chandika Hathurusinghe, Mario Villavarayan and Jeevantha Kulatunga. There is a chance that 'mighty' Murali may also play. The PCA has also announced a 'Masters' game against the South African team currently touring England. This match scheduled for August 6 at Shenley Cricket Centre in Hertfordshire owned by a Sri Lankan entrepreneur 'Glucka' Wijesuriya will field a powerful world side including Aravinda de Silva, Mahela Jayawardene, Chaminda Vaas and Kumar Sangakkara. |
