Sports activities in Kandy Playgrounds and Community Centres to be streamlined by UPANANDA JAYASUNDERA - Kandy Sports Special Corr The Kandy Municipal Council has allocated a sum of Rs. one million two hundred and fifty thousand (Rs. 1,250,000.00) for the year 2003 for the purchase of sports goods for the 22 playgrounds and 42 community centres. Table tennis racquets and balls, carrom boards, draughts boards and chess boards for the community centres and footballs, netballs, leather balls and tennis balls for cricket for the playgrounds. The Municipality has also purchased weightlifting equipment for the 33 community centres. Further, the Municipality allocated a sum of Rs. 150,000 for this year for expenses of the Municipal football team. There is a television set at all centres and the Municipal library will supply the daily newspapers to all community centres in addition. A sports committee too has been appointed by the Mayor Mr. Kesara Senanayake to improve the sports activities. |
