Rupee American Express credit cards launched by NTB by Pelham Juriansz Nations Trust Bank (NTB) launched its American Express card for the Sri Lankan market last week through an exclusive alliance. This is the first time that Sri Lankan rupee American Express credit cards are being made available. Kula Kulendran, Vice President, Asia Pacific Australia, American Express Global Network Services told a news conference that NTB is widely recognised as one of the most innovative new generation commercial banks in the country. "We are confident that through this partnership, we can offer a wide range of innovative, world-class products, services and benefits to consumers in Sri Lanka. "The Sri Lankan market offers an excellent opportunity and we will continue to evaluate and offer more products and services that support the lifestyle needs of our customers," he said. Moksevi Prelis, CEO of the bank said: "From inception, NTB followed a differentiation strategy to increase its market share. Through this partnership with American Express, NTB hopes to grow its card business by leveraging the large consumer relationships that its promoters already have". A customer loyalty programme, membership rewards, was also introduced for the first time to the Lankan customer. It offers one point for every Rs 100 spent on the card. Points can be redeemed for a range of gifts. The card will be globally valid while travel assistance and insurance benefits will also be available. According to the bank, the credit card is targeted to the affluent and those aspiring to be affluent. NTB was incorporated in 1999 by taking over the local operations of the Hong Kong-based Overseas Trust Bank. It is promoted by two leading local corporates - John Keells Group and Central Finance Group - together with the International Finance Corporation. |
