One on One We did report that Ranil has finally woken up to the fact that he needs to drive the development programs from the front seat, last week. He did spend huge chunks of time in meeting the business fraternity 'One on One' including all of the local blue chips. The crowd included 'well spot' Wela, Lalith the short Wela, King Mahendran, Mano the Wealthy Nathan, Fernando of Dilmah fame, Soomal who has accessed, Eusufally of the Hemas household among others to create the Jobs much needed in the short run by the grads without jobs and the youth without billet. Ranil also took the opportunity to brief the business crowd of the reforms in progress and how he plans to spend the 18 Billion smackers, the message was not to get unduly jittery over any changes in the political climate but to get on with it. He had said turbulence might be experienced while the tribesmen are negotiating the IA and CBK continues to take pot shots at ministers. Dias-pohora The Tribe has been active in dispatching the 'Wealthy' Tamil to France to drum the propaganda machine for the Tribe. The representative tribesmen from USA, Canada, Switzerland, Germany, Norway and France listened with apt attention to the plan of action for the diaspora - the message was tribesmen cannot relax, collection of funds should get the highest priority in the possibility of war, if and when the IA does not materialize! Joining the circus were WTM the global arm of the tribe and TRO another front organisation, which continues to operate with impunity in Canada unlike in the US. All this 'pohora' is to grow the fund of the Tribe, little wonder we have so many 'wealthy' tribesmen living it up, while the poor man in the North is reduced to living without the basic necessities. Time to wake up boys. Aegian Stables II It is whispered, or should we say 'neighed', that the old horse studying the IA proposal of the GOSL has left the conclusion, after his 'deep' study, in ambiguous state, while the legal eagle 'Golden' Raja who did a similar job sometime ago, left it in no uncertain terms: Secession. While both these horses agree that a PC system is old - hat, they both seem to favour a confederacy, where the Sinhalayos and the brotherhood can co-exist in one half and the other becomes the abode of the tribesmen. We did mention in the previous weeks, that with the exception of foreign policy and currency, land, security and revenue collection becomes a tribal function, which the 'Golden' raja too agrees is the next best option to "Eelam", leaving legitimacy and international recognition as the remaining 'trophies' for the tribe!! Constables and Crooks The din created by the brotherhood after the bashing by the tribe has led to the mass recruitment of policemen from the brotherhood in the East. This in some way will countervail the use of force by tribesmen, with self-appointed police powers. The tribe is visibly disturbed over this "imbalance" and is pressing for legitimacy of the self appointed 'Eelam Constabulary' of the Tribe. The Tribe is not content with this, and are planning to orchestrate 'hartals', in Trinco and Ampara. The tribe is also doing its own recruitment and have 'collected 106 heads' in a record time of one week. Hope there are no kids among the 'heads'! In the same vein we suggest that the JVP which is currently on a march to save the country, should enlist in the SLA, to strengthen our security in sensitive areas. We are sure that this a challenge beyond their capacity. While Wee Flower should not forget the fact that it is the "Red Tiger" which bled the country not many moons ago, and not the Green or the White variety. The Tribe on the other hand is planning to stick it out, come hell or high water, at their camps at Korangupanchan Kulam and fortifying another at Periyakiran in an uncleared area closeby, on land belonging to the brotherhood. Digging their feet in is another tactic, which the Tribe thinks will get them their territorial imperative in an 'Eelam' yet to come. Boorucrats While the tribe is working with 'bottom line' focus, the boorucrats in the Ministry that does not finance, in particular are more focused on 'How things cannot be done' than find ways and means of implementing the programmes of the GOSL, which Ranil has been slaving to get on track in the last many months! The Secretary 'birds' of Ministries such as that of the Powerful and Energetic one, The One that is on the road and on highways and the other which supplies water and housing, seem to be lost in the labyrinth of procedures and rules which do not serve the development goals but their own ends of pen pushing and waiting for the schols which always seems to come to the booruwa who is not pulling his/her load. It is high time the SLAS and SLPS got revamped on new rules. Rules meant to effectively implement the hundreds of projects that are waiting to see the light of day! - The Mole |
