A quiet storm

Soon to make a quiet storm in the Colombo circuit is the five member outfit Breeze led by the experienced vocalist Mahendra Fernando. The band has over these past years captivated audiences in the Southern circuit especially in the weekends with their brand of music that reflects the best of the 60s to the 70s and includes reggae, pop and rap. Down South, Breeze is presently featured on Fridays at the Bentota Beach Hotel and on Saturdays at the Riverina.

(L-R) Sumith, Mahendra, Dishan, Hasitha and Janaka.

Two years ago they played a stint at Taj Samudra, Colombo and are now a frequent choice at many corporate functions. "When Breeze started off in the music scene the group comprised my family of four brothers and one sister. After some time my brothers went abroad and when my sister got married I was compelled to bring in new personnel" says leader Mahendra Fernando who shares the vocals with the drummer Hasitha Samarakoon and the lead guitarist Janaka Colombage.

The other members of this enthusiastic band are Sumith Welaratne - keyboards and Dishan Pieris - bass. The band's repertoire showcases covers of hits by Tom Jones, Ricky Martin, Santana, CCR, medleys of favourites of Trini Lopez, Elvis Presley and also Carribean hits. Their balanced repertoire includes songs by Clarence, Milton, Rookantha and Bathiya and Santhush.
