Duty of LTTE to protect Muslims - Karuna Referring to the aspirations of the Muslims of the East Karuna Amman said that the LTTE would speak with the Muslim leaders and thereafter take up their issues with the government or it is the duty of the Tigers to protect the Muslims. On the recent killings and abductions in the East, he said Mr. Rauf Hakeem who declared himself as the leader of the Muslim community though the Muslims of the East want one from their area to be their leader. But Hakeem is not from the East and fears for his position and political clout which is the background of all the tension in the East. "Our position is that a united North-East is our motherland but President Kumaratunga is attempting to de-merger the North and East and using Hakeem as a tool to achieve this. It is the Muslim leaders who should take up the responsibility for all the murders and tension in the East", he further said. |
