Malaysia and Chinese Taipei - first to arrive for Singer-SriLankan Rugby Sevens Malaysia and Chinese Taipei are the first sides to arrive in the country on Wednesday for the 5th Singer-SriLankan International Rugby 7s of the Kandy Sports Club to be worked off at the Bogambara Stadium on September 5, 6 and 7. This is being sponsored by Singer (Sri Lanka) Limited and SriLankan Airlines with Connaissance de Ceylan as the co-sponsors and ANCL as the Print Media sponsors. The Chairman of the Organising Committee, Iswan Omar, told the Sunday Observer that the rest of the sides Portugal, Germany, Arabian gulf, Belgium, Denmark, Australian Peteroos, Cook Islands, New Zealand Centurions, Kenya, Morocco, Singapore, South Korea and Hong Kong are due to arrive on Thursday. He said: "They will be taken up to La Kandyan Hotel direct from the Colombo International Airport and Liaison Officers have been appointed for every side. The New Zealanders and Australians have also informed us that there will be about 50 of their supporters arriving for the 7s, where all arrangements have been finalised. This year, the 7s will take on a much bigger festival air with musical shows etc." The teams for the International 7s are: Group 'A' - New Zealand Centurions, Kenya, Morocco, Arabian Gulf, Group 'B' - Portugal, Cook Islands, Belgium, Singapore, Group 'C; - South Korea, Hong Kong, Germany, Malaysia, Group 'D' - Australian Peteroos, Chinese Taipei, Denmark and Sri Lanka. The sides for the Schools 7s are: Group 'A; - Royal, Isipatana, Ananda, Matale RFU, Group 'B' - St. Anthony's, Wesley, Thurstan, Dharmaraja, Group 'C' - Kingswood, St. Peter's, St. Sylveser's, Sabaragamuwa RFU, Group 'D' - S. Thomas', Trinity, Vidyartha and Ruhunu RFU. |
