Record price for low grown tea

A record price of Rs 350 per kilo was obtained at last week's Colombo Tea Auctions for a line of pekoe grade, low grown tea produced by Adams View Tea Factory in Ratnapura.

The buyer at the auction was George Steuart Teas Ltd and the selling broker was Mercantile Produce Brokers pvt Ltd.

CSE sees highest turnover

The Colombo Stock Exchange (CSE) achieved the highest ever turnover of Rs 34.82 billion on Thursday, surpassing the 1994 figure of Rs 34.52 billion. This turnover was achieved within 162 trading days while in 1994, it was achieved within 234 trading days.

With the total turnover at Rs 436.4 million on Thursday, the CSE achieved its highest ever total turnover for a given year since 1994. The All Share Price Index closed the day at 1,117.8 points, reaching its highest point since November 16, 1994.
