A Harry Potter fan

She certainly needs no introduction. Ashanthi a member of the popular Bathiya and Santhush, is busy putting down tracks for her debut solo album. Watch out for it! She returned recently after performing with B&S in London in August for the Asian Festival held at the Millennium Dome. They played a 45-minute set singing their up beat compositions which turned on the audience wow-like. A Harry Potter fan, Ashanthi is proud of the whole series of Potter books she possesses. She enjoys writing lyrics, poetry and drawing cartoons, the last she indulged in at school. Read on for more....

Name : Ashanthi de Alwis

Birthday : February 21

Fav colour: Blue and black. I also like purple. I like it because you can wear it with anything. I must not forget, yellow. To me it is a cheerful colour makes me happy. Trendy outfits: I like trendy outfits when I'm performing for concert shows, or when I go out. But personally I like to wear just jeans and tops.

Hair dos: Well I like it down and straight. Since of late I tried the braids and I like that too. I hate tints. I like hair to be in its natural colour.

Fav music: R&B and hip hop. R&B like the music of Brian McKnight, Beyonce, Mariah Carey and Boyz to Men. I enjoy a little bit of alternative music the variety of Averil Lavigne, Michelle Branch, Creed and Puddle of Mud.

Fav songs of 80s/90s: From the 80s the songs 'Grease' and 'Dancing Queen' while from the 90s 'Hero' by Mariah Carey and Selina's 'I Could Fall In Love With You.'

An embarrassing day: It happened on stage during a performance. I was moving around singing when I tripped on the wires and the mike flew off my hand. It was awful! I had to pick up the mike and continue with my song. Gosh!

How much of a party girl are you: I hate to be boring. I do go out occasionally. But mostly it is work, work, work and music, music, music. I have potentials to be a party animal when the occasion arises!

How do you reject any advances from boys: I smile politely, shake their hands, thank them for the compliment and walk off.

Are you superstitious: To a certain extent I do. I believe in ghosts. Definitely where I work! I heard from reliable sources they exist. I believe in black Mondays.

Do you still have your childhood toys: I do in a big box under my bed. My Barbie dolls, my army soldiers and my toy pistols.

What's you pet hate: Papaw (ugh!) Societywise I don't like bullies and people who lie.

What makes you happy in life: Being able to do what I like best - my music. Performing on stage, producing my songs and travelling.

We returned recently from London after performing at the Millennium Dome for the Asian Festival. Touring has helped me acquire a lot of knowledge of people in different levels in professionalism in the music industry and the knowledge and experience I've gained so far is a plus to be put into practice when it comes to your own work.

How many rude thoughts do you have in a day: I try to stay calm and nice as possible. I am a friendly person and have no problems in getting to know people.

What's your meaning of life: Life is something that should not be played with and should be taken seriously to a certain extent. So whatever you have to do should be done to the best of your ability and by practising it - you get the best out of life.

What would you do if you ruled the world: I don't like dictatorship. I would want all my friends to rule it with me - it will be a big party.

Are you a dreamer by nature: Very much. I've always aspired to make my dreams a reality. From my kid days I wanted to have a record deal with Sony, produce my first album - duo or solo. I targeted for it and Ranidu and I, we achieved it with our CD.

Which product would you like most to endorse: Any pop FMCG that teenagers would latch on to.

Your fav cartoon characters: Cartman from South Park and Monster from My Pet Monster - I can do a good impersonation of Monster!

Your worst hit song: Celine Dion's - 'My Heart Will Go On'. Its over used to the limit that I don't want to ever hear it again.

Whats for the future: I'm working on a solo album, working on it fast so that I could release it at the beginning of next year. It's a mix of Sinhala and English ballads and pop songs. I've written all the English lyrics. And with Bathiya and Santhush a European tour is lined up.
