Anura Rohana 9th out of 109 in Bangalore by LAL GUNESEKERA Sri Lanka's Anura Rohana fared quite well at the Hero Honda Open Championship of India's Hero Honda Golf Tour at Bangalore last week by finishing ninth out of a field of 109 professionals with 4-over in the four rounds where he carded 75, 70, 75, 73. Rohana who won around Rs. 40,000 for his attempt lost by 14 strokes to India's Arjun Singh the ultimate winner who was 10 under. The Lankan gave the Cotton City Open at Coimbatore a "miss", and then missed the "cut" with 5-over at the TNGF Open at Chennai. Earlier in July, Rohana, also finished in ninth position with a total of 288 (72, 71, 66, 79) at the Hero Honda Indian Golf Professional Tour's opening event - the Kashmir Open at Srinigar and finished on level par after the 72 holes. This was won by India's Jyoti Randhawa who was 13 strokes ahead of the Sri Lankan with rounds of 67, 71, 70, 67. Here, Rohana, pocketed about Rs. 80,000/-. Rohana now flies to Chinese Taipei today (Sunday) to play in the US Dollars 300,000/- Marouries Masters at the Tamsui GCC in Taiwan from September 11 to 14. He said that he wanted to play better as he celebrates his 30th birthday on the first day of the event. From Chinese Taipei, Rohana, flies to Singapore, where he will be joined by veteran K. A. Nandasena Perera, who is figuring in a tournament overseas after many years, at the Nations Cup (World Cup qualifying) at the Laguna National GCC from September 18 to 21. Later, Rohana, is scheduled to figure at the Kolon Cup Korean Open, which is an US Dollars 400,000/- event at the Woo Jung Hills CC from October 9 to 12, US Dollars 300,000/-. Hero Honda Masters in India from November 6 to 9, US Dollars 500,000/- Volvo China Open in Shanghai from November 13 to 6, Acer Taiwan Open which is an US Dollars 300,000/- event from November 20 to 23 and the US Dollars 700,000/- Omega Hong Kong Open at the Hong Kong Golf Club from December 4 to 7. Earlier in the year, Rohana, who failed to make the 'Cut' at the 37th Thailand Open and Qatar Masters, finished 42nd at the Myanmar Open in Yangon and 14th at the Royal Challenge Indian Open in Delhi. |
