Annesley de Silva conducts spin clinic in Kandy by Kandy Sports Corr Former NCC, Saracens and Board XI cricketer Old Thomian Annesley de Silva is back in Sri Lanka on holiday and was up in the hills recently to spot spin talent for further training. Annesley de Silva, one of the top spinners in the country during his time migrated to England in 1976 and he has obtained the Level 3 coaching certificate awarded by the England County Cricket Board. Presently he holds the high position as the Spin Bowling Coach of the Lanchashire County in England - a position no Sri Lankan has held before. Annesley de Silva visited Kandy along with former Test spinner Gamini Silva and conducted a spinners coaching clinic at the Asgiriya Stadium for schoolboys under 16 years, to spot talent for further training in Colombo. Annesley de Silva said Sri Lanka has only Muttiah Muralitharan around at present and the authorities must look for some one to replace him when he says goodbye to cricket. He said a number of spinners from Kandy put up impressive performances during the coaching clinic which was organised by the National Development Centre of the BCCSL and the Central Province Cricket Association. |
