Chrisantha Peiris - star performer in Sri Lanka's 3/2 win over South Africa Sri Lanka indoor cricketers pumped up by Caltex did well to beat South Africa by 44 runs in the final leg of the series to win 3-2 and win the Lanka Cement Trophy. The star attraction in the series was Chrisantha Peiris who won three awards - Team of the Final, Man of the Series and Best Bowler in the series. With two wins each, the final 'Test' was a test of both stamina and skill for the two teams. After winning the toss and batting, Sri Lanka were off to a rip-roaring start with openers T. Zoysa and T. Mendis put on 43 valuable runs and later D. Witharana and C. Peiris added 28 runs for Sri Lanka to be 71 at the end of 8 overs. Sri Lanka finally made 102 runs at the end of their 16 overs. D. Theron bowled best for South Africa and had 3 for minus 5. South Africa started cautiously but were pegged down with I. de Silva bowling a good second over taking 2 for minus 7 and reducing the opening pair to 14 runs. The big hitting second pair of R. de Vries and D. Theron aided by two sixes from Theron attempted to hit out boldly but they were also dismissed five times and were 38 at the end of 8 overs. Though N. Burger and K. Bain rebuilt the innings somewhat by collecting 24 runs in two overs, but they fell prey to D. Witharana 3 for minus 2 and A. Pathirana 2 for minus 1 and South Africa were out for 58.
