Devi Balika girls champs at Western Province Athletic meet

Devi Balika Vidyalaya, Colombo put up a splendid performance to emerge overall senior girls champions and also carried away the main trophy for girls at the Western Province Athletic Championships held at the Sugathadasa Stadium.

The school performed well to establish several records in the individual events and in the relays. Dulanjalie Ranasinghe,in the girls under-15 high jump, set a new meet record, going over the bar 1.59 metres.

Kaushani Dunasinghe improved on the girls under-17 record in 100 metres with a new time of 12.7 secs. She also won the 200 metres event. Lahiruhu Peiris in the girls under-17 erased off the high jump mark, clearing 1.65 metres. Nalini Seneviratne set a new record in the under-17 girls 400 metres 60.25 secs.

Devi Balika Vidyalaya athletes also established records in the 4x100 metres relay - 50.6 secs., the relay quartet comprised Nalani Seneviratne, Kaushani Dunasinghe, Lahiruhu Peiris, Chamodi Amalka.

The 4x100 metres relay quartet also got at the record 4:13.6 secs the team comprised Nalani Seneviratne, Kaushani Dunasinghe, Chamodi Amalka, Udeshika Herath. (L.F.)
