SLIM to open branch in Jaffna by HIRAN H. SENEWIRATNE Sri Lanka Institute of Marketing (SLIM) will open a branch in Jaffna in a bid to disseminate marketing knowledge and training for youth in the peninsula. "This area had been inactive for two decades, yet we find some grey areas and are waiting for people to settle down before opening up a regional office in Jaffna", said SLIM President Prof K. U. Kamalagoda. He described North and East as a virgin market, which has enormous potential for business. Salesforce in the country is growing rapidly and the number of women entering the profession are on the increase with the effect of the globalisation. "One of the main advantages that present-day women have over men is that their easy access and willingness to work in outstations as well. "There is a belief that women also have the flair and knack of persuading clients unlike in old days, he said. "Today women are ever ready to travel all over Colombo and, even staying overnight, are factors that have created a big change in the marketing and sales fields," Prof. Kamalagoda said. In view of recognising marketing and sales personnel in the country SLIM will organise a National Sales Congress for the 5th consecutive year. At this event, more than 250 dynamic sales personnel in the country will be recognised and rewarded for their outstanding performance to their respective companies and for the marketing field. This event is scheduled to be held on January 30 at Trans Asia Hotel.Chairman of the Organising Committee of NASCO Chaminda Karunanayake said the main benefit for the organisations are recognition of their top sales personnel at national level. SLIM is a statutory body, which was established under an Act of Parliament. |
