Versatile in repertoire

Raj and the Pioneers who have for more than twenty years been active on the music scene in their own style, are now regulars performing for the Ceylinco Group at Raja Bojun and Fingara Club etc. Led by Raj Dassanayake, a founder member, the band is a versatile in both English and Sinhala songs and was fortunate to play dates in Saudi Arabia and Hyderabad.

According to Raj with their new female vocalist Danushka Wettasinghe, the band is now projecting a new outlook, to suit the present trends in the music industry, and is appreciative of all the assistance Sunil Perera of the Gypsies has given him towards the progress of the band.

With a repertoire that stretches from evergreens, standards and modern Pioneers are gearing for an active year in 2004. The band comprises Raj on drums and vocals, Nihal Weerakkody - lead guitar/vocals, Lucky Kulatunge - bass/vocals, Lalin Galhena - keyboard/vocals, Nuwan Tilekeratne - keyboard/vocals, Danushka Wettasinghe - vocals, Richard Ferdinandez - lead guitar/vocals.
