Golden Oldies with a difference

'Golden Oldies Upfront' an evening for those music lovers who never tire of listening and enjoying the great hits of yesteryear originally sung and recorded by singers like Englebert, Tom Jones, Cliff Richard, Louis Armstrong, Neil Diamond, Connie Francis and the Everly Brothers, will be staged on Sunday, February 22 at the 6.30 p.m. sharp. The show which will feature a spectrum of singers is presented by the Thomian Society of Colombo in collaboration with DR Entertainments and Gold FM. The print media sponsors are Daily News and Sunday Observer.

According to the organisers "Golden Oldies Upfront" on Sunday, February 22 will take on a modern and new outlook, hitherto not attempted by other Golden Oldies presentations. The choreography will be exciting when singers move on stage to make their impact. Centre stage will be Sunil of Gypsies fame, Corinne, Dalreen, Harold Seneviratne, Denzil and Bosco, Rajitha of Misty, Nimal Jayamanne, Russel Gomes, Ronnie Leitch, Rajiv and Ishan Bahar.

Musical backing for all the singers and musicians will be by the popular and versatile band Rajiv and the Clan.

Besides the western hits, familiar party hits from the Sinhala Golden Oldies label, especially those made popular by C. T. Fernando, M. S. Fernando, P. L. A. Somapala and Chitra and Rukmani Devi will also be featured, and this whole evening of enchanting music will be threaded together by the popular emcee Vijaya Corea. The show has been designed to cater to all ages and proceeds are in aid of the Thomian Society Scholarship Fund.
