Former Trinity Lion Clarence Senanayke dies by KANDY SPORTS CORR. Death occurred in Kandy last morning of former Trinity College Rugby Lion Clarence Senanayake after a brief illness. Late Clarence Senanayake played rugby and cricket for Trinity College from 1947 to 1949. He excelled as a scrum half dishing out quick passess during the early days of the Bradby Shield. In cricket he was known for his brilliant slip fielding and one match he has taken eight catches fielding in the slip position and also close in. Leaving Trinity armed with a Rugby Lion, he turned out for CR & FC and later for Havelocks Sports Club in top division rugby. Later he returned to a captain Kandy Sports Club in the 1960 when Chandra Wijenaike was the President of the Club. He was a member of the Board of Governors of Trinity College and a Trustee of St. Paul's Church Kandy for many years. He was also a Consultant on Civil Engineer at Trinity College for a long period. His funeral arrangements will be notified after the arrival of his children from the US. |
