Chandrasekeran in two minds

by Deraniyagala Roving Corr.

Former Minister and Nuwara Eliya District MP, P. Chandrasekeran, addressing a meeting at the UNP office in Deraniyagala, charged the Ceylon Workers Congress (CWC) for failure to get a wage increase for estate workers.

He said that he was opposed to the CWC-organised satyagraha and told the CWC hierarchy that it would end up in failure. He further said: "I do not forecast a UNP victory at the PC elections. However, there are candidates contesting on the UNP ticket from the UUPF and I appeal to estate workers to vote for them. This is the only way that estate workers could stabilise the UUPF and strengthen it to fight for their rights".

The meeting, according to Chandrasekeran, was organised to canvas support for P. Anthonymuththu, who is contesting on the UNP ticket.
