Microsoft grants Rs. 13m to Sarvodaya

Microsoft Corporation said that it would give Rs. 13 million to the Sarvodaya Shramadana Movement as part of the company's third round of Unlimited Potential (UP) grants to recipients around the world.

This will help improve Sarvodaya's Multipurpose Community IT Telecentre (MCT) network which is globally recognized as an innovative Information Communication Technology (ICT) initiative to provide such access to rural underserved communities.

Accordingly, Sarvodaya will improve the facilities of 12 IT Telecentres in 12 districts. These Telecentres, will serve the communities and help to provide basic computing courses that can enable rural youth to pursue new job opportunities and contribute fully to their local communities and to the country at large.

The grant will also facilitate 240 scholarships for village youth from underserved areas to acquire basic computer skills. A fully equipped and staffed Multipurpose Community IT Telecentre will also be established in the North East to carry out training in the former conflict affected areas.
