Elephant Corridor has to be seen to be believed

No one will believe that there is a hotel of this nature in the country, one that imparts all Mother nature's delights.

The Elephant Corridor a plush hotel at Sigiriya situated 136 Km away from Colombo, is one of the few luxury hotels in the country, that caters to people of all tastes.

From its inception many celebrities have visited the hotel including members of the British Royal family.

The hotel has 21 luxury suites, designed to fit the lifestyle of any client. The hotel has an individual plunge pool (a swimming pool for two) in every suite.

"This next- generation up market hotel could be considered as a bio diversity generator which always respects Nature by being in harmony with the environment," Chairman of the managing company of the hotel Tropical Leisure Management Ltd Prasanna W.Jayawardena, said. He said that the hotel is surrounded by wildlife sanctuaries and the ruins of ancient cities, and allows one to experience Sri Lanka's famous heritage. According to Jayawardena the hotel is situated in an environment-friendly location, There are no fences round the hotel which the Chairman says is a unique feature.

Animals such as elephants, leopards and deer from the wild come close to the hotel compound, a magnificent sight, while beautiful bird songs resound every where, Chairman Jayawardena added.

The star class Elephant Corridor offers a special kind of hospitality based on individual requirements.

Jayawardena said that this lifestyle hotel has peace and tranquility and will provide "What the client wants to have, we will offer Jayawardena said.

This hotel is a blend of nature and new technology in keeping with the Sri Lankan identity and designed by a Sri Lankan with a lot of foreign exposure, to suit nature, he said.

This exclusive hotel's charges US $ 200 a day. Its holiday packages touch US $ 2990.

Several foreign guests have come all the way to Elephant Corridor to get married, while many tourists are repeat clients, attracted by the hotel's unique features.

The hotel has a satisfactory occupancy rate despite its high charges. In the month of February it had recorded the highest service charge in the region, the Chairman said.

Executive Director Susanne Filippin said that within the short span of one year the hotel has become very poplar because of its dedicated staff.

"If not for our dedicated staff, we would not have been able to reach this standard," Ms Filippin said .

She said that the hotel has a staff of 120 representing all ethnic groups in the country working in peace and harmony.

She said that the hotel has recruited and trained some members of its staff from the Sigiriya village.

The hotel's dedicated staff is qualified as good hoteliers and they work as a team as it is their own property, Filippin said.

The Elephant Corridor hotel was established last year with an investment of Rs 400 million is a 100 per cent local company.
