The crowning of three Queens Three beautiful women stole the limelight last week when the scintillating pageant at Galle Face Hotel crowned them beauty queens, to represent three international beauty pageants later in the year.
Deborah Rozan Vandort was sashed and crowned as Miss Sri Lanka for Miss Intercontinental, with Miss Shehara Silva as Miss Sri Lanka for Miss International, and Mrs. Manisha Shyamali as Mrs. Sri Lanka for Mrs. Globe. Brian Kerkoven choreographed the glittering pageant which featured 15 unmarried contestants and an equal number of married contestants. The three newly crowned queens are expected to leave the island shortly, to represent Sri Lanka in their respective international pageants, with Deborah flying to China; Shehara to Japan first and then China; and Manisha to Palm Springs, California. Deborah was crowned by Anura Lokuhetty, General Manager, Galle Face Hotel and sashed by Nuwanthi Somathilake. Shehara was crowned by Sebastian Perera, Chairman, Celsin Ltd,. and Franchise Director for 14 international beauty pageants scattered across the globe including the current three pageants and was sashed by Prakash Bhutani, Chairman, Bhutani Group of Companies. Manisha was crowned and sashed by Ruwan Godage, Features Editor, Ceylon Daily News. The nine judges at the pageant were Sebastian Perera, Franchise Director; Sherley Ganegoda, Chairman and Managing Director, Mount Royal Group; Prakash Bhutani; Nuwanthi Somathilake, fashion Model who represented Sri Lanka for Queen of the World Pageant in Germany and was placed in the top ten; Anura Lokuhetty, Upali Ranjith, Manager-Programmes, ITN: Jacky Perera, Managing Director, East Globe Lanka Ltd. and Director, Celsin Ltd.; and Ruwan Godage. Sponsors for the three pageants were SriLankan Airlines, Abans, Shiran Garments, Raja Jewellers, with Linea Aqua providing Speedo swim suits, Russel's Tea packs, Gigi Shoes footwear, Wickramaarachchi Opticians colour contact lenses and Mount Royal Group two telephone sets. Sterling Flowers was the official florists with Softpro Computer Systems as the official computer consultant and Associated Newspapers of Ceylon Ltd. as the official newspaper group. |
