Leading names in the music and showbiz scene fall in to provide excellent entertainment throughout the week at the Galadari Lobby .....entertainment that reflects a difference in variety and a high standard of expression. Enjoying a long stretch of popularity is the group Nalin and the Star Combination who have been playing at the Galadari for more than fifteen years and that includes the successful New Year's Eve dances. The band comprises leader Nalin Fernando on guitar and vocals, Shirmila Fonseka - vocals, Dilantha Silva - keyboards/vocals are featured on Tuesdays. "Giving out the best musically is our motto", says Nalin who attributes the success of their band to the type of music they play. "Ours is an extremely wide repertoire that stretches from the golden oldies to the contemporary chart hits, which have given our fans many moments of happiness", expresses Nalin. Apart from the regular gigs they are busy working crowded schedules playing for weddings, dances, get-togethers and for many leading events. The six piece band Heat swings the lobby with their sounds on Wednesdays and Thursdays. The band plays a wide range of music including Arabic, Sinhala, Tamil and Spanish songs. Chayan Fernando who played for the band Back Stage is now a member of Heat and the group which plays covers of Lionel Ritchie, Shaggy, Elton John will be seen at many event stages according to them such as the Rotary and Bradby dances in July and August. The group also play the hits from '70s to the '90s, besides the contemporary chart hits and as they claim have performed in the countries Australia, Bahrain, India, Maldives and Doha. Catch Bottom Lineon Sun days the five piece relatively new band will be in action with a wide range of music from the oldies to the latest. All the members in the band handle vocals which gives the band an added advantage. Diliup Gabadamudalige, a leading keyboardist in Sri Lanka is in performance on Friday evenings. Diliup Gabada, as he is fondly called, has a long line of fans who appreciate his artistry, in short his wizardry on the keyboards. His performances are always awesome and leaves you thirsting for more.
A veteran pianist and an amazing one at that Claude Fernando's Classic Combo performs on Saturday evenings. Claude is a pianist who without exaggeration knows every song that was created from the war years, the post-war years, the swing era, the Latin era, rock'n roll era and present day - it's amazing! Make sure you join him and his Classic Combo on Saturdays. Finally, your diary on Mondays and Thursdays has to carry a 'must' star to catch the Uppekka Dance Troupe. Their stylistic dance routines reveal the classic artistry of the dancers which is a visual treat not be missed. |
