Brighter outlook for Cager Nationals in Southern Province

The Senior Men's and Women's Basketball National Championships will be given a bigger and brighter outlook when it takes place from July 17 to 25 with the majority of the matches played in the Southern Province. General Sales Company Ltd. is the main sponsor.

David Pieris and company, Dialog GSM, and Hager are the co-sponsors. The women's matches will be confined to Colombo, but the men's and women's final is scheduled to take place at Debarawewa, Tissamaharama on July 25, with Prime Minister, Mahinda Rajapakse gracing the occasion. In the men's championships 18 teams have been divided into four groups. In Group 'A' - Mercantile, Gampaha, Badulla, Hambanthota, Army. In Group 'B' - Navy, Ratnapura, Kurunegala,Galle. In Group 'C' - Colombo, Batticaloa, Matara, Kegalle. In Group 'D' - Police, Trincomalee, Kalutara, Air Force, Schools. In the curtain raiser match in Colombo Mercantile will meet Gampaha at the Otters Courts while Police takes on Schools at the Depot Police Courts on July 18.

Besides a few games played in Colombo the bulk of the matches will be played in Matara at the Uyanwatte Stadium, Rahula and St. Servatius College courts.
