Trade welcomes SLIA decision The construction trade applauded the decision by the Sri Lanka Institute of Architects to proceed as planned with the Architect Exhibition, to be held in February for the 22nd consecutive year. Entrance ticket sales last year showed a paid-up visitor figure of over 75,000, excluding students who gained free entry to the exhibition. The trade felt that the exhibition is essential to showcase and introduce products and methods and this year in particular it had a vital role to play in highlighting urgently needed products and new building techniques to aid and urge on the Rebuild Sri Lanka efforts after the widespread destruction caused by the tsunami of 26 December 2004 stated the integrated communications agency for the event, Cameron Pale & Medina. Earlier, Cameron Pale & Medina conducted a survey of almost 100 companies that had already booked stalls at the exhibition to ascertain their views and willingness to participate in the exhibition. Amarasiri Wickramage, Sales Director of Cameron said that the trade looked forward to the event every year, was a little hesitant at first due to the uncertainty of the situation and the reaction of the SLIA. Last week after SLIA officially announced that the Architect Exhibition would go ahead as planned the trade reacted very positively and several immediately confirmed their participation and many even booked advertisements in the special supplement to be published to mark the event, Wickramage pointed out. |
