Plan Sri Lanka commits Rs500 m

Plan Sri Lanka, part of the international child-centred community development organisation, Plan International, has committed at least Rs. 500 million (approx. US$5 million) to tsunami victims.

Plan will use these funds to help the affected people to rebuild their lives by supporting them with resources to reconstruct their homes, livelihood, education and water for sanitation needs. Much of the work will be in the Hambantota District where Plan has had a development program since 1996.

After successfully raising the standard of living in this area through its work in health, education and livelihood, Plan was in the process of leaving this region to focus on another area of need.

The tsunami, however has changed these plans.
