Spark now an established flame by Mahes Perera In the short spell of time that they got together, Spark have succeeded in capturing the attention of young groovers who are constantly in search of new talent to dance their cares away. Led by the one time keyboardist of Dream Team, Sanjeewa Uyanhewa, Spark have come to stay in the music industry. "I was fortunate to form this group with musicians who played for Zodiac and Simple.
With Samantha who plays bass and doubles up on guitar, Manoj on rhythm and vocals, Varuna on keyboards and Nadeesha on drums I am happy with the sound" says the energetic Sanjeewa who has worked hard to produce a new sounding outfit. The exciting sounds of the Bangra take a prominent place in their repertoire with Chullaka playing Sri Lankan percussion. Besides, the group's repertoire matches up to the demand of music from the 60's, 80's, dance, rock rock'n roll. Sanjeewa tells us that his launch into the music scene was with Dream Team gave him a good background. Thereafter he played with a trio in the Maldives and then had a short stint in Oman with Red Serendib led by Evans Fonseka. But the adventuring spirit in him couldn't be contained. He was keen on leading his own group and he lost no time in working towards it. The music scene in Sri Lanka needed new talent and a new sound and he was quite confident he could provide it. Sanjeewa is grateful to Geoffrey Fernando for supporting his cause and giving the opportunity to play at Clancy's weekly, which he admits was a good testing ground. The response the group received was un-expected and now Spark is in the midst of playing at private functions and at outdoor shows backing many artistes for their performances. At Clancy's, Spark is now a regular experience working on Mondays weekly and alternating with Misty on Fridays and Boomerang on Saturdays. Make the Spark date! |
