Wasantha Karannagoda - President SLASU by LESLIE FERNANDO Rear Admiral Wasantha Karannagoda is the President of the Sri Lanka Aquatic Sports Union (SLASU). He was re-elected for the fourth term at the annual general meeting held recently at the Sports Ministry, Sports and Medicine Office at Independence Avenue. A former Ananda and national swimmer SSP P. S. Kithsiri Dayananda, SP Nevin Pathmadeva, a former reputed national swimmer, Wing Commander Sanjaya de Silva, two-mile sea swimmer and a former Royal and national level swimmer Rifdy Fahmy were elected as Vice-Presidents. C. Vijitha Fernando a 'livewire' in the aquatic scene withdrew his nomination for the office of Vice-President. ASP Ranmal Kodituwakku, national waterpolo player is the new Secretary. Nethru Nanayakkara, yet another national waterpolo player is the Assistant Secretary while Prateesh Sivaratnam is the Treasurer. The annual open two-mile sea swim at Mt. Lavinia on March 6 will be the first event of the SLASU. There will be ten swimming events planned for this year. Meanwhile four Waterpolo tournaments will be on the cards together with three Synchronised Swimming events for this year. In addition, Aquatic Development Swimming Meets will be held in the North Western, Southern, Central, North Central, Western and the Outstation Development Swimming Championships. |
