Ananda-Royal drawn

by Leslie Fernando

Charith Jayaweera hit a polished 52 with five fours and two sixes and shared a 79-run stand with Mahee Wathuregama (an unbeaten 26) to enable Ananda to gain a slender five-run first innings lead over Royal in their school cricket match which ended in a draw at Reid Avenue yesterday.

Royal 190 on Friday and Anandians in reply 33 for 3 were struggling at 116 for 9, but steady stand between Charith and Mahee enabled them to total 195.

Royal in their second essay were 140 for 4 at close with Malinga Maligaspe hitting an aggressive unbeaten 56 with 5 fours and 1 six.

Royal 190 and 140 for 4 (Dimitri Siriwardena 22, Sukitha Senaratne 27, M. Maligaspe 56 n.o., Gayan de Silva 22 n.o., Achela Ranasinghe 3 for 26).

Ananda 195 (Amal Athulathmudali 24, Achela Ranasinghe 20, M. Wathuregama 26 n.o., C. Jayaweera 52, Dulanjaya Wijeratne 4 for 69, Haroon Mawjood 4 for 49).
