UK trainer for apparel sessions by Hiran H.Senewiratne The Export Development Board (EDB) has taken the initiative along with private sector participation to bring down an internationally renowned UK trainer to conduct two training sessions for local apparel industrialists. These programs will be carried out by Paul Collyer on a request from apparel industrialists.Arrangements have been made by the EDB to conduct programs in March, its Chairman Rohantha Athukorala said. He said that a skilled workforce requirement was a major obstacle for the apparel industry to survive with the phasing out of the Multi Fibre Agreement (MFA). The EDB continued with the production balancing and trainer programs with Collyer during the last four years on a cost sharing basis with the industry.Up to now six programs have been were carried out and approximately 70 workers have benefited from these programs, he said. Collyer is specialised in equipping managers, trainers and supervisors with the skills and knowledge to help them to improve manufacturing productivity levels, profitability and competitiveness in the business. Director, Product Management Indira Malwatta said that they intend to select 10 companies for these training programs especially from the SME sector. |
