D. S. celebrate its 38th anniversary by Edward Weerasinghe D. S. Senanayake College Colombo will celebrate its 38th anniversary on February 10. The school was founded only 37 years ago. DS was founded by the late I. M. R. A. Irriyagolla Education Minister (during the regime of Prime Minister Dudley Senanayake). DS which has since been growing steadily and speedily with the strong foundation laid and the pace of growth set by the founder Principal R. I. T. Alles, has seen seven eras under five different principals. At DS, all races, and creeds co-exist in absolute harmony. It is the only national school with shrines of all four main religions. Hence, it is no exaggeration to say that DS celebrates diversity. While DS is continuously growing in its academic performance, it is already national champion in many sports. Students of DS are sharpening their linguistic and science knowledge in multimedia labs - a new concept introduced by Mr. Hewage. A fully equipped gymnasium with a state-of-the-art Squash Court, a 26 million swimming pool complex, a hostel that can house 60 students, upgraded computer rooms, and libraries with modern books are some physical resources that DS acquired in the recent past. |
