PM appeals to public to bear up with delays Rohan Mathes reporting from Tangalle Prime Minister Mahinda Rajapakse appeals to the nation to bear-up inevitable shortcomings which may arise in the re-building process, in the aftermath of the tsunami devastation. The premier addressing the large gathering present at the 'Foundation-laying ceremony' of Vijayaba Primary School in Tangalle yesterday said, "there could be shortcomings such as delays caused by government officials. We will do our best to expedite them". He said that irrespective of whether it is a Tamil from the North or Muslim from the East or a Sinhalese from the South, we have to put our heads together and achieve our goals as human beings. "Our children are the future of our country. We must provide all they need for a quality education irrespective of their ethnicity or religion", he noted. Rajapakse pledged to re-build all the 172 odd schools and 80,000 odd houses destroyed by the tsunami at the soonest. The PLAN International Executive Director Tom Miller, Deputy Ministers Chamal Rajapakse, Mahinda Amaraweera, Nihal Gallappatty and South Province Chief Minister Shan Vijayalal De Silva also spoke. |
