21 wickets fall on day one by Ranjan Anandappa Twenty-one wickets fell for 208 runs in a bowlers' dominated first day's play of the Inter-Provincial cricket match between Western Province and Central Province begun at the SSC grounds yesterday. Test bowlers of either side, mainly left-armers Nuwan Zoysa (6 for 12) and Ruchira Perera (4 for 21) of the Central Province and Chaminda Vaas (3 for 27), captain of the Western Province, were among the wickets as the Test batsmen failed to make any worthwhile contributions. Western Province were shot out for a paltry 43 in their first innings with already one wicket lost in their second innings for 32 runs. The Central Province were restricted to 133. Western Province 43 in 23 overs (Chaminda Vaas 15, Nuwan Zoysa 6 for 12, Ruchira Perera 4 for 21) and 32 for 1 at stumps (Michael van Dort 21). Central Province 133 in 47.5 overs (Dammika Sudharshana 26, Sajith Fernando 18, Thilan Smaraweera 27, Bathiya Perera 19, Thilina Kandamby 17, Chaminda Vaas 3 for 27, Thilina Thushara 3 for 32, Dinuk Hettiarachchi 3 for 22). |
