NFSL looks for taller players for netball pool by Leslie Fernando The national netball pool of 24 players selected in preparation for the 6th Asian Netball Championships to be staged in Singapore in August this year has been disbanded and a fresh trial to select a new squad will take place on February 20 commencing at 8.30 a.m. at the National Youth Services Council at Maharagama. Ms. Yasmin Dharmaratne, Secretary Netball Federation of Sri Lanka said that all affiliated associations, clubs, institutions have been requested to send their best players for the trials. The NFSL is looking for taller players as it will be a big advantage for the Sri Lanka team added Ms. Dharmaratne. Mrs. Lourdes Jayasekera, national coach, Mrs. Deepthi de Alwis, assistant coach together with the national selectors will be present at the trials. Netball Nationals Thirty teams will participate at the National Netball Championship to be held on February 26 and 27 at Sir Bernard Aluvihare Stadium, Matale. The teams in the fray are: 26 sides from District Associations, State Services, Defence Services, Mercantile and Schools. Mercantile Association and Colombo District Netball Association emerged champions and runners-up respectively. The NFSL also have decided to provide financial assistance to 35 netballers who were effected by tsunami disaster. They will receive relief at the conclusion of the nationals added Ms. Dharmaratne. |
