Lanka Bell signs Rs 4b Chinese contract Lanka Bell, signed a Rs. 4 billion equipment supply contract with China's Huawei Technologies Co., Ltd for the supply of a CDMA wireless local loop telephone network system and fixed wireless terminals, in a trail blazing venture to take telecommunications to rural areas in Sri Lanka. The contract was inked by Huawei Technologies' Sri Lanka Country Representative Allen Peng Peng and Lanka Bell's Deputy Managing Director Suren Goonewardene. The Rs. 4 billion deal has been described as a significant one in Sino-Lankan bilateral trade relations, and is in addition to Lanka Bell's investment of USD 150 million to expand telecommunications through Sri Lanka. |
