'LTTE denial unacceptable' by Anura Maitipe The Government finds it difficult to accept the LTTE's denial of its involvement in the killing of Minister Lakshman Kadirgamar, Government Spokesman Minister Nimal Siripala de Silva told a news conference held yesterday at the Information Ministry. "The LTTE has issued two contradictory statements in its web sites", Minister Silva added. He said that in one of the LTTE web sites, it had denied the killing of Minister Kadirgamar and in another web site the LTTE has stated that the period of government is finished and Kadirgamar is also finished. Therefore the government will not believe the LTTE's denial. This barbaric act was a severe blow in the effort to restart the already stalled peace process. The government has already informed the international community to mount their pressure on the LTTE to stop such barbaric acts, he said. President Chandrika Bandaranaike Kumaratunga has issued directives to the IGP to make a full probe into the killing and bring the culprits to book. Meanwhile the government has declared a day of mourning on Monday. Arrangements have been made to hold a state funeral to honour the late Minister Kadirgamar. Family members have urged all media and the public not to take any video visuals or photographs of the funeral of late Minister Kadirgamar. |
