'Tsunami - hit families will continue to receive Rs. 5000 dole' - Dr. P. B. Jayasundara Matara Central Corr. "Those who lost their means of livelihood due to tsunami - will continue to get the monthly allowance of Rs. 5000 until they achieve stability," said the Finance Ministry Secretary, Dr. P. B. Jayasundara when he addressed a conference attended by govt. officials and held at the Matara Secretariat Auditorium (new building) and was convened by the Matara District Secretary with a view to assess the progress so far achieved in re-building the tsunami devastated families in the District of Matara. At this conference Dr. Jayasundara praised the govt. officials - high and low and non - governmental organisations for their great contributions in resurrecting the tsunami-affected areas in the district. 'It is the duty of all Gramaseva Niladaris and Divisional Secretaries' to see that the living-allowance of Rs. 5000 be paid to those who are really in distress. Efficient way in which relief work was executed by the govt. officials from the onset of the disaster has received world-wide recognition and praise. In appreciation of services rendered by Grama Seva Niladaris during the govt has decided to pay each Grama Seva Niladari a monthly allowance of Rs. 500 - Rs. 3000. Matara District Secretary Gaminie Jayasekara tabled the progress report conference relating to the Tsunami Relief Programme launched by the Matara District Secretariat. The Fisheries Ministry Secretary A. Jinadasa also spoke at the conference. |
